5 DMDC Trusted Associate Sponsorship System Page 5 1 Introduction This content guide includes a description of the Trusted Associate Sponsorship System (TASS) application. This section discusses the purpose and background of the Common Access Card (CAC) program. 1.1 Purpose of TASS The TASS application, originally developed in 2003 as a Certificate of Validation (CVS), is designed to make the application documents using the DD form, Application to the Department Department of Defense (DoD) CAC Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) Enrollment. For example, TASS supports various types of government credentials such as Volunteer Logical Access Credentials and Uniformed Services ID (USID) cards. The original CAC has 32 kilobytes of electronic programmable read-only memory (EEPROM) and supports the security cryptographic functions of the card, including key encryption and digital signature. With PKI, data encrypted with a public key can only be decrypted with a private key. ICC contains protected information about the cardholder (such as personal identification number [PIN]), identity

Four unique digital certificates stored on the chip allow the cardholder to digitally sign information, encrypt information for transmission or storage, and establish security in website to access and update information on the Internet. The new version of CAC is equipped with 144 kilobytes of EEPROM. The increased memory enables the creation of more and more functional applets to support the business. 7 DMDC Trusted Associate Sponsorship System Page 7 2 TASS Roles and Responsibilities This section describes each role in TASS and discusses the responsibilities of the people assigned to each role. TASS users must meet the requirements set out in the section below in order to fulfill their duties and responsibilities and be eligible for access to the TASS application. 2.1 DoD Application Since the release of version 2.0, organizations wishing to use TASS do not need to submit a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to use TASS services. The TASS application has become a DoD application and does not require all agencies to have an individual MOA with the DMDC. 2.2 Protection of Personnel Information (DMDC) The DMDC, as the administrator of DEERS and Real-Time Automated Personnel Identification System (RAPIDS), manages and manages the TASS infrastructure. To manage the level of TASS business processes, DMDC has established three TASS user roles, Service or Protection Office (SPOC), Trusted Agent Security Manager (TASM) and Trusted Agent (TA). Be a member of the National Security Agency, a civilian employee of the Department of Defense, or a contractor working for a service or agency. Be a CAC holder. Ability to send and receive digitally signed and encrypted. Each site must have at least two TASMs. According to DoDM, TASMs should not operate more than 200 TAs without prior approval and approval from the SPOC.
